"The Hands-On
Labs, Inc. LabPaq experience has sparked an element of
discovery into the course. As the labs are performed by
following the manual only, and the instructor is not
available in the middle of the experiment, students are
forced to get creative in solving problems encountered once the lab is started.
Students learn by doing... Through
these labs students are certainly getting a very good hands on
experience in manipulating chemicals and honing their
observation skills. This is very similar to the experience a
student gets in a face-to-face lab course."
Venkat Chebolu, Associate Professor of Chemistry, Jefferson
Community College, SUNY System
This has been a
very successful class. I feel the students may have actually
learned more in the online version than in my on campus
version, particularly for the labs, because they had to do a
lot of problem-solving without a teacher being right there
to answer all their questions. Rather than e-mail me or put
questions on the discussion board, many of them opted to
"figure it out for themselves." And they DID figure out much
of it on their own or in collaboration with another student.
I'm impressed by their hard work, perseverance and
resourcefulness.
Pamela Thinesen,
Biology Faculty, Century College
"I
am VERY happy with the LabPaqs (BK-2A) and would be happy to
share my experiences with others considering using
them."
Sandra Mitchell, Assistant
Professor of Biological Science, Western Wyoming Community
College
"I love your
LabPaqs and your approach to science. My students have so much
fun with the labs. They go from hating to loving science."
Rhonda Racine - Lydian Academy
"A new use for
your LabPaqs! We have our lab in a building that was a
horse barn in the 1800s. We had a student who had an
allergic reaction while in the lab. So we set her up
with your Chemistry 1 LabPaq in her home and she is doing quite
well! With this adaptation, she will continue to
complete her year of chemistry! Also Your LabPaqs helped
out a student who was in our regular year of chemistry, but
suffered an automobile accident...we were able to keep him
up to date while recovering at home."
Peter E. Hughes, Ph. D., Chemistry, Mount Ida College
"Nice job on the Hands-On Lab Chemistry Lab Manual you wrote. One
of the kids I am tutoring is using it, and she loves the way
you set everything up. Her mom can follow it, too, which means
it is very user-friendly and takes the stress off me when I
have to go through things with her". Rachel
Ross, CCC-OnLine Chemistry Tutor
"You
guys are great - had 2 chemistry labs and 2 physics labs with
you guys and everything worked well! You made it possible for
me to work full time and pursue med school!" Cat
Volz, Pre-Med College Student
"I am a University of Denver student who petitioned DU for
permission to take CMC’s online chemistry course using your
CK-1 LabPaq while living in New Zealand this fall. DU
thoroughly examined all of the CMC course materials including
your LabPaq and manual and determined that they fully met DU’s rigorous criteria for first semester Chemistry, so my
petition was approved. Thank you for making LabPaqs
that allow me to fulfill my college requirements while
abroad!" Ashley Holtum, College Student
"I
just want to thank you and the staff at Hands-On Labs. Your
service and support are outstanding and so are your prices. I
spent some time online pricing microscopes, cameras
and immersion lens and there is no way I could have come close
to what you offer!"
Kimberley Bodin, College
Student
"Thanks so much
for the quick delivery - I got the Chem. I LabPaq
today! Thanks for the great service and the cheaper next
day delivery advantage with UPS. You all are a remarkable
company. I hope you prosper well in the future." Mary
E. Smith, College Student

"Your
labs are providing a learning experience that Laurel
Springs students would not have otherwise."
Laura
Riege, Math &
Science Chair and Teacher, Laurel Springs School
"Hands-On
Labs provides students with a valuable hands-on
approach to science. It is the perfect complement to
online learning! Our students get a practical,
first-hand science experience that is safe, easy and
educational. We are proud to offer quality home science
study with these innovative LabPaqs." James Rieger,
Director, Allied National High School
"I'm
very impressed with your company and will recommend you!"
Christopher Babic, High School Tutor
"I
must say that these labs are far superior to the home
school science labs at our local science museum (MOSI).
Really these are first rate in content and explanation." Monica, High School Student's
Parent
"We received these two BK-1 LabPaqs on Wed., Aug. 30,
and wanted to let you know how terrific they look.
The boxes are packed so well and all the pieces are very
nice. This is our first year doing a Science Lab
class and we did not expect the supplies to be so
well-prepared and easy to use. Also, your customer
service was great. The morning after I placed my
order for two of the same kit, someone from Hands-On
Labs called me to confirm
that my order was correct. I wish more companies
would be concerned about getting an order right!"

Student Survey Comments Taken From the Presentation:
The Role of Home LabPaqs in Online College Science
Courses
Given at the ITC e-Learning Conference in Albuquerque,
NM 02/18/07
by Professor
Margaret E. Vorndam, M.S.
Colorado Community Colleges Online
Ø I have definitely gained more practical knowledge from
the home LabPaqs than I ever did from on-campus
labs. I feel that I do the labs more thoroughly at
home when I don’t have a time constraint. I have also
gained research and problem solving skills from the
online classes.
Ø I was quite impressed with the amount of materials
included in my home LabPaq. I feel that it more than
adequately covers the labs that I need to perform.
Also I feel that some of the materials, such as the
scale, thermo-meter, magnifying glass, etc can be
reused for other classes and in my personal life.
Ø I prefer the home lab primarily because I have the
flexibility to take as long as necessary in one
sitting to complete the lab. Also the quality and
level of experiments is comparable to campus labs.
Ø I
think the home LabPaqs make it fun to do the labs.
I like the variety of labs they have and all
the materials are available at all times. Also at the
beginning of the labs, they explain the lab and
aspects of the lab very well.
Ø Hands-On
Labs, Inc
LabPaqs are much better because each student is
required to do the work not just a group where one
person does the work.
Ø I’m enjoying doing the work at home. There’s no
experiment or dissection that I’m missing out on.
Ø As
a first time user of a Hands-On Labs, Inc.
LabPaq, I find it
very convenient and simple to use.
Ø One thing that’s nice about the home
LabPaq is that
my son can also participate in the learning
experience.
Ø I
think the LabPaqs are well put together and I like the
fact that I can do the course at home, otherwise I
wouldn’t be able to take the course.
Ø I
enjoy the opportunity to take labs at home since I am
a working parent. It provides a hands-on experience
at any time that is convenient in my schedule. I do
not have to worry about daycare or gas money to get to
school. |
